The delivery of adult social care is going through a period of Essay
The delivery of adult social care is going through a period of profound challengechallenge and change. Give a critique of the so - Essay Example The 2010 report of the Department of Health has assured additional funding of ?2 billion by 2014/15 but there had been programmes which funds were discontinued and without any clear direction as the Department seem to grapple with opposing demands as well as criticisms and evaluation outcomes. This paper will try to identify and evaluate relevant provisions of current adult social community care, critically analyse the current adult social care policy agenda and its impact on social work provisions, and critique the social care policy agenda and how it will impact on future social work provision with a focus on an adult with learning disability. It will also incorporate in the discussion the theories of normalisation, biological, social model/neo-liberal, social valorisation and person centred approach, medical model and social models. Discussion Government Initiatives The most recent effort of the government about social care is to address empowerment of communities and individuals to address local challenges. Adult social care policy applies the ââ¬Å"putting people firstâ⬠(PPF) approach that helps individuals become more independent, and in control of their own lives through their choices. This is called ââ¬Å"self-directed supportâ⬠where individuals choose their options for home care, hiring personal assistant, or use Adult Social Care (East Sussex County Council, 2010, P 1). High quality services are geared towards making people healthy and in-control of the kind of support they are provided. The Department of Health promotes in the system freedom with the aim to strengthen communities and individuals as autonomy replaces dependency. Another value promoted is fairness addressing the question ââ¬Å"how do we pay for care?â⬠(Department of Health, p 4). The government vies for clear, comprehensive and modern framework that considers both carers and adults who need support. The third value promoted is responsibility where Communities are e ncouraged to become innovative in creating networks of support for individuals. As the Department of Health suggested, ââ¬Å"Care must again be about reinforcing personal and community resilience, reciprocity and responsibility, to prevent and postpone dependency and promote greater independence and choice,â⬠(p 5). The main goals of PPF are: introduce self-directed support prevent problems through early intervention ensure availability of the different types if support for everyone help people use support networks (East Sussex County Council, 2010) . For social care workers, assessment and eligibility criteria may remain the same but changes may be in the care services and solutions that individuals may chose. Social workers involved in the process may include those working in Adult Social Care, voluntary or independent sector, or personal assistants. Carers are provided more involvement in decision-making through assessment of needs as well as planning for support. This will help the team or group involved in the importance of each contribution as well as understand the support the carer or social worker may need. The support plan involves an action plan that includes the list of things to do, by whom and a time table. The team of professionals will then have their roles defined. Additional funding for the future provides a cushion for policy-making and the implementation of improvement as well as redesigning of services to gain

A Day When Everything Went Worng Essay Example for Free
A Day When Everything Went Worng Essay I just cannot think myself lucky when a day of my life goes totally wrong. Recently after starting university a day made me totally upset and frustrated. It was a normal day but my mobile did not give any alarm in the morning so I woke up late. While I was in hurry for university my mother told me that our driver did not come today so I had to go alone. I lived in Dhanmondi and the university was in Bashundhara so I had to take a CNG for university. As soon as I reached Nabisco the CNG had stopped. I asked what happened to the CNG driver. He answered me that the gas was finished and he had to refill it now. As I was late before I just came out from the CNG and hired another one. Finally I reached to the university but it was 10 minutes late. I saw that everyone was writing in the class. When I asked what was going on, they replied me that miss was taking a surprise test. My heart was biting fast but when I heard about the test it started biting faster. After the class I went to the cafe for a cold drink but I found that I had only 50 taka with me. See more: Defining research problem and setting objectives Essay Then I remembered that in harry I forget to take money from mother for CNG rent and I already paid 180 taka to the CNG when I came here. So, I had no money for food at the same time no money for further CNG rent. I had to take bus for home but I never had a bus ride alone before. After asking some of my friends I got an idea about the bus counter here. Then I went there and took a bus. When I heard the bus conductor was screaming ââ¬ËNew Marketââ¬â¢, I found that I was in the wrong bus. This bus was in new market but I should take a bus which had a stoppage in Kolabagan. Since I had nothing to do, I had to get off in new market and took a rickshaw. When finally I was in home it was 6 pm. As long as I met with my mom I saw she was getting ready for going out and she was looking tensed. I asked her what happened. She answered me that one of my aunts was in hospital and maybe she had cancer. I just suddenly became blank. What should I do now? After a while I decided to go with my mom. We were there in the hospital till late night. When I reached home I thought about the whole day and marked it as a totally wrong day of my life.

Euthanasia is Moral Essay -- Argument for Euthanasia
Recent debates over active euthanasia, "killing" a terminally ill patient, in Holland, has raised the question whether euthanasia is immoral or a simple human right. Doctors seem to have no doubt. They made an oath. The definition of Euthanasia depends on whether it is active or passive. Active Euthanasia I only allowed in Holland, and it means that the doctor takes direct measures to put a patient to sleep, whereas passive Euthanasia only involves stopping pill consumption, or stopping treatment. In England, only passive Euthanasia is allowed. Euthanasia touches some of the deepest feelings in human beings. It is the power over life and death, and responsibilities no one wishes to take, have to be taken. This, of cause, leads to the ultimatum, that it is the patient's own choice. But can we allow some one to take their own lives? Doesn't this mean that everyone else around the patient has failed, that more could have been done? From the patient's point of view, a lot of arguments talk in favour of euthanasia. For one, no body wants to be a burden. If a person has had a car accident, which paralyses him from neck and down, and is doomed to sit in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, he knows that he will be 100% dependant on the ones that care for him, his lived ones, forever. It can also be mentioned that the life quality of a terminally ill patient, gets reduced a lot. Never being able to walk again, never being able to talk to your children again, never being able to go shopping, swimming, playing, driving etc. must be terrible for anyone. The whole situation only gets worse, if the patient himself can see that his condition is worsening, and only time keeps his thoughts clear. A third very importa... ... disease by killing the patient, as he believes. It allows the patient to die in peace with no suffering. Steve Forbes calls euthanasia barbaric (31). Isn't it far more barbaric to force someone to suffer rather than helping them to end their misery? Euthanasia is ethical, and physicians should be allowed to assist in it legally. My great-grandfather was terminally ill with cancer. He couldn't eat or sleep, he just laid there, constantly in pain. There was nothing they could do as far as cancer treatment, because his body was too old and weak. So, he suffered for almost 2 months, while we all watched him suffer more and more everyday as he lay there dying. He stated many times how he just wanted to die and didn't want to live anymore. But, we (society) forced him to suffer. This is something that should have never happened and should never happen again.

The Rise And Fall Of Jack Johnson Film Studies Essay
Jack Johnson the first Afro-american Heavyweight Champion of the World, whose laterality over his white oppositions spurred ferocious arguments and race public violences in the early twentieth century enters the ring one time once more in January 2005 when PBS airs Inexcusable Black: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson, a provocative new PBS docudrama by acclaimed film maker Ken Burns. The bipartite movie poses on PBS Monday-Tuesday January 17-18, 2005, 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET ( look into local listings ) . Burns, whose past movies on PBS ( The Civil War, Baseball, JAZZ, etc. ) are among the most-watched docudramas of all time made, shows the farinaceous inside informations of Johnson ââ¬Ës life through archival footage, still snap, and the commentary of packaging experts such as Stanley Crouch, Bert Sugar, the late George Plimpton, Jack Newfield, Randy Roberts, Gerald Early and James Earl Jones, who portrayed Johnson in the Broadway drama and movie based on Johnson ââ¬Ës life, ââ¬Å" The Great White Hope. â⬠ââ¬Å" Johnson in many ways is an incarnation of the Afro-american battle to be genuinely free in this state economically, socially and politically, â⬠said Burns. ââ¬Å" He perfectly refused to play by the regulations set by the white constitution, or even those of the black community. In that sense, he fought for freedom non merely as a black adult male, but as an person. â⬠Johnson, who was born in 1878 in Galveston, Texas, began packaging as a immature adolescent in the Jim Crow-era South. Boxing was a comparatively new athletics in America, and was banned in many provinces. African americans were permitted to vie for most rubrics, but non for the rubric that whites considered their sole sphere: Heavyweight Champion of the World. African-Americans were considered unworthy to vie for the rubric non for deficiency of endowment, but merely by virtuousness of non being white. Despite this, Johnson was relentless in disputing James J. Jeffries the heavyweight title-holder at the clip, who was considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight in history for a shooting at the rubric. For 14 old ages, Johnson had made a name for himself every bit good as a considerable sum of money with his ability to crush black and white oppositions with flooring easiness. Jeffries, nevertheless, refused to contend a black pugilist and alternatively decided to retire undefeated. Then in 1908, after get the better ofing most other white oppositions, the new title-holder Tommy Burns agreed to contend Johnson in Australia for the unheard of amount of $ 30,000. In the 14th unit of ammunition, after crushing Burns unrelentingly, the battle was stopped and Johnson became the first Afro-american Heavyweight Champion of the World. In Inexcusable Blackness, Johnson biographer Randy Roberts observes, ââ¬Å" The imperativeness reacted [ to Johnson ââ¬Ës triumph ] as if Armageddon was here. That this may be the minute when it all starts to fall apart for white society. â⬠His triumph spurred a hunt among Whites for a ââ¬Å" great white hope â⬠who could crush Johnson and win back the rubric. They eventually found him in Johnson ââ¬Ës old Nemesis, Jim Jeffries, who decided to return from retirement and give Johnson the battle he had ever wanted. This battle was particularly of import to Johnson, because many Whites had dismissed his claim to the rubric as invalid ; Burns, it was argued, was ne'er the true title-holder because he did n't win the rubric by crushing Jeffries. No 1 had beaten Jeffries, and most idea he was certain to repossess the rubric for Whites. The Johnson-Jeffries battle, dubbed the ââ¬Å" Battle of the Century, â⬠took topographic point on July 4, 1910, in Reno, Nevada. Johnson knocked out Jeffries in the 15th unit of ammunition. Johnson ââ¬Ës triumph sparked a moving ridge of countrywide race public violences across in which legion African americans died. Newspaper columns warned Johnson and the black community non to be excessively proud. Congress finally passed an act censoring the interstate conveyance of battle movies for fright that the images of Johnson crushing his white oppositions would arouse farther agitation. Possibly even more distressing for white America than Johnson ââ¬Ës laterality over his white oppositions in the pugilism ring were his romantic webs with white adult females. One of his frequent going comrades was Hattie McClay, a white cocotte. They were subsequently joined by Belle Schreiber, besides a white cocotte whom Johnson met in Chicago. ââ¬Å" He would n't allow anybody specify him, â⬠says James Earl Jones in Unforgivable Blackness. ââ¬Å" He was a self-defined adult male. And this issue of his being black was non that relevant to him. But the issue of his being free was really relevant. â⬠Johnson finally married a white adult female, Etta Duryea. Their relationship was troubled ; Johnson drank to a great extent and abused her ; she was a victim of chronic depression. Duryea finally committed self-destruction in 1912. Three months subsequently, Johnson married Lucille Cameron, another white adult female and a former cocotte. In 1910, Congress passed the Mann Act, which outlawed the transit of adult females in interstate or foreign commercialism ââ¬Å" for the intent of harlotry, orgy, or for any other immoral intent. â⬠While the jurisprudence was intended to be used against commercialised frailty, the U.S. authorities used it to do Jack Johnson wage for his success and his life style. In 1913, Johnson was convicted of go againsting the Mann Act. His former lover, Belle Schreiber, testified against him. Even at the clip it was widely thought to be a assumed test, with the prosecuting officer himself stating after the finding of fact, ââ¬Å" This Negro, in the eyes of many, has been persecuted. Possibly as an person he was. But it was his bad luck to be the first illustration of the immorality in allowing the exogamy of Whites and inkinesss. â⬠Johnson fled the state and exhausted several old ages as a runaway in Europe. In 1914 he lost his rubric to Jess Willard in Cuba. In 1920, Johnson returned to the U.S. , surrendered to governments and served his clip in prison. He was ne'er once more given a shooting at the heavyweight rubric, and in 1946, after being angered by a racialist incident at a diner, drove his auto excessively fast around a bend in North Carolina and was killed. ââ¬Å" Johnson ââ¬Ës narrative is more than the narrative of a enormous jock, or even one who broke a colour line, â⬠said Ken Burns. ââ¬Å" It is the narrative of a adult male who forced America to face its definition of freedom, and that is an issue with which we continue to fight. â⬠Inexcusable Black: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson is a production of Florentine Films and WETA Washington, D.C. Corporate support provided by General Motors Corporation. Additional support provided by PBS, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations and Rosalind P. Walter.

Conformity and Obediance in ‘Schindler’s List’
Authority and Obedience Speech: Familiarity. Is this really beneficial, or rather an obstacle for the people who yearn to make a difference and move forward in life ? If I were to ask all of you here today, are you afraid of being alone and cast aside, you would all, yes. People are afraid not to conform to the extent that you allow others to formulate your so-called creed and mould you into people they envision, not necessarily the person you aspire to be.All of a sudden, your behavior pattern is the exact replica of your leader, you begin raring your beliefs from them, hanging off their every word until Inevitably, you become utterly devoted. Whether your reasons are simply nullity or even Just exhaustion of being constantly ignored, you have now lost yourself and are living the life that has been mapped out by someone whom you thought you could trust. Familiar Is not necessarily good, It Is only familiar. Comfortable is not necessarily good, It Is often Just familiar.Doll Hitler, the Chancellor of Germany during WI, was, in hindsight, one of the most narcissistic leaders to date, however his true hearted was buried within his authoritative charisma and hypnotic speeches. Oscar Schneider and Ammo Goethe were both fascinated by the authoritative Influence of which their country was surrounded, Both were raised on the very essence of fascism. With these thoughts of tyranny planted deep within their vulnerable minds, these views began to grow and develop into a way of life.Initially manipulating the system, Schneider was concerned only with himself and the success of his moneymaking scheme, however over time, undergoes a change that romps him to spend his fortune to save the lives of those he once exploited. He attempts to hide behind his constant self-control because he was taught that vulnerability is for the weak, yet somehow In spite of this, still seems vulnerable, one could even say fragile, a trait he shares with his foe Goethe.HIS vulnerability is truly highlighted in the end of the movie where he convinces himself that he could have saved more Jews and collapses into the arms of his Jewish accountant and friend, Ithaca Stern. Stepping away from the familiarity and secure Identity of authority In he Nazi party, made him shed his skin of cold hard steel to reveal a much more softer, more vulnerable side of this hero who conquered not only the Nazi's but above all, himself and his own feelings of conformity and compliance. To be able to stand up and overpower the protected familiarity he grew up admits, is utterly Inspiring and encourages us to not always take the role of the sheep but to assume the role of the Sheppard and develop our own ideas instead of merely trusting the charismatic leader of the age. Unlike Schneider, Goethe never manages to stray Into goodness. However, the lack of hang In his basic nature does not render him a one-dimensional character. On the contrary, Goethe is a complex and conflicted man who is torn between the familiar and 1 OFF in the form of the Nazi party as a child, however at this point, having grown and developed an even stronger, habitual even a somewhat fearful sense of narcissism, it is difficult for Schneider to subdue Goethe way of life like he has his own. Sooth's fear of change, his fear of stepping into new realities, is so profound that he desperately clings to the world he knows, to the world he has become a part of. His unwillingness o break free from these constraints ultimately leads to his downfall. We witness one of his battles within himself where he first pardons a Jewish boy and then turns and shoots him, not liking the new picture of himself. Animosity takes over his mind and he resorts to his all too familiar ways. He is too weak, or rather too terrified to face himself face what he is becoming due to the simple fact it involves change. Change is the adversary, in Sooth's eyes and shown through this little Jewish boy. Hence he thought if he relieved himself o f this boy, he would get rid of the change and go back o his life where everything way simple and ââ¬Å"by the book. Inspire of this change continued to haunt him, to creep up on him and strike when he east expected. A war against one's self is a most terrifying ordeal because no matter where you run, where you hide, it will always be with you, tempting you, harassing you and finally consuming you. Chandler's List is no less a ââ¬Å"Jewish storyâ⬠or a ââ¬Å"German storyâ⬠than it is a human story. And its subject matter applies to every nation. Of course, the film is about racial hatred and the brutality of humankind, however my interpretation of the two main characters, stems from the concept of not only a war against nations but really a war against one's self.Within Steven Spielberg merciless depiction of Goethe, we witness his battle within his own self, a battle of which he could not win. In the beginning, Goethe was Just like any other Hitler drone, a soldier who m had no intention to question Hitter's authority. However, once Schneider had planted seeds of doubt and punctured his barrier of obedience, disorder began brewing beneath his cold and heartless exterior. The strange logic Schneider introduces to Goethe, forces IM to acknowledge and re-evaluate learned perceptions that he had previously accepted.Today our society raises us to believe that obedience is good and disobedience is bad. We are taught that we should all do what we're told and that the people that are disobedient are almost always bad people. Society tells us this, but it is not true. Most people will even be obedient to the point of causing harm to others, because to be disobedient requires the courage to stand alone against authority. Disobedience is not always wrong. The truth is sometimes it is necessary to be rebellious. Man's development has largely been affected by being defiant.Authority that has tried to prevent new ideas and keep things as they are because of the fear of being overpowered and contradicted. It can cause the most ethical and moralistic to abandon their core values and seemingly close their eyes while following an unjustified authority. Learning to distinguish between the right and wrong guidance would have assisted Goethe to come to terms with himself and those around him. However, Just like the good and evil concept, where there is conformity, there must
